Andaman



The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the Union Territory of India and it comprises of 572 islands, islets and rocks that are formed by a submarine mountain range in the Bay of Bengal. Most of the islands i.e. approximately about 550 islands are located in the Andaman area and approximately 22 islands are located in the Nicobar. Out of 572 islands, only 26 from Andaman and 10 from Nicobar are populated.

The main islands in the Andaman are Land Fall Islands, Middle Andaman, South Andaman, Port Blair and Little Andaman. The main islands of Nicobar are Great Nicobar, Chowra, Teresa, Nancowrie, Katchal and Little Nicobar. Port Blair is the capital city of this Union Territory. The main languages spoken are Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Nicobarese and Telugu.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands experiences a tropical climate and 86% of the land mass is covered by forest. There are two distinct seasons- summer (January-April) and rainy season (May-December). The best time to visit is from December to early April.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are surrounded by lots of splendid beaches and these islands are equally as popular as those of Mauritius beaches, with respect to the scenic beauty. These beaches are truly enticing with wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and lots of eco- tourism activities. Andaman and Nicobar Islands offer almost all kinds of water sports like scuba diving, yachting, diving, water-skiing, snorkeling, rafting, cruises around the harbor, sailing, kayaking and other sports like island camping, trekking and more. The tourists can also visit the Cellular jail, Ross Island, Viper Island, The Chatham Saw Mill, Marine Museum and Anthropological Museum. Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a marvelous blend of nature's most valuable enchantment which makes it once in a lifetime holiday experience.
